Welcome.

We are conflict resolution practitioners with a diverse set of experiences and expertise.

Rukiya and Erika met while completing their Master’s degrees at Carleton University in Conflict Analysis & Resolution. In their courses, they were often frustrated by hearing from the dominant narrative. They saw an opportunity in conflict and conflict resolution to name and address power imbalances in their many forms. Combining Rukiya’s skills in crisis counselling and labour relations with Erika’s skills in cross-cultural communication and facilitation, Rukiya and Erika started Common Ground. Rukiya and Erika are passionate about finding solutions, while also acknowledging complexity, the validity of multiple truths, and the transformative potential of having difficult conversations.

With twenty years of collective experience, we bring an empathetic, trauma-informed approach to managing conflict. In our minds conflict is an opportunity for transformation and if handled well can be a constructive, healing and positive experience.
